The takeaway
OASIS 2 adds evidence from Japan and South Korea, including adults with type 2 diabetes. It tested a 50 mg daily tablet regimen against placebo, not against injections.
Who took part?
The trial randomized 201 adults with overweight or obesity and related health conditions; 51 had type 2 diabetes. Both groups received lifestyle recommendations.

| Group or measure | Result |
|---|---|
| Oral semaglutide 50 mg daily | 14.3% |
| Placebo | 1.3% |
What changed?
At 68 weeks, estimated average weight loss was 14.3% with semaglutide versus 1.3% with placebo. The main analysis included outcomes regardless of stopping treatment.
The trade-offs
Digestive adverse events occurred in 63.4% versus 34.8%. Six of 134 semaglutide recipients stopped treatment because of adverse events, compared with none receiving placebo.
The study was relatively small, particularly its diabetes subgroup. Its dose and results cannot establish equivalence with other tablets or weekly injections.
Novo Nordisk funded the trial.
