The short answer
Over 60 weeks, mazdutide produced more weight loss than placebo. Digestive side effects were frequent, although fewer participants stopped because of adverse events.
Who was studied?
GLORY-2 randomized 462 Chinese adults with obesity. Its analyses included the 461 who received treatment: 307 mazdutide and 154 placebo. About 16% had type 2 diabetes.
Both groups received reduced-calorie diet and physical-activity support.
Percent of starting weight
Original visual based on the study.
| Group or measure | Result |
|---|---|
| Mazdutide 9 mg | 16.65% |
| Placebo | 1.50% |
What changed?
Average weight loss was 16.65% with mazdutide 9 mg and 1.50% with placebo at week 60. The difference was 15.15 percentage points.
What were the trade-offs?
Vomiting affected 53.1% versus 1.3%, nausea 46.9% versus 3.2%, and diarrhoea 39.4% versus 6.5%. Most events were mild or moderate.
Adverse events led to treatment discontinuation in 2.9% versus 0%. Experiencing a symptom and stopping treatment are different measures.
The useful takeaway
This provides longer follow-up than the small 24-week study. It does not show how mazdutide compares directly with other weight-loss medicines or establish everyone's likely results.
