Summary
Fortnightly bofanglutide produced weight loss, and digestive side effects remained common.
Study
Researchers randomized 340 Chinese adults with overweight or obesity to injections or placebo for 30 weeks, alongside lifestyle support.
Percent of starting weight; both schedules received lifestyle support

| Group or measure | Result |
|---|---|
| 12 mg every two weeks | 9.75% |
| 18 mg every two weeks | 12.55% |
| 24 mg every two weeks | 13.66% |
| 48 mg every two weeks | 16.09% |
| 24 mg weekly | 16.69% |
| Placebo | 1.15% |
Results
Estimated average weight loss is shown above.
Analysis included participants regardless of adherence; missing results were estimated using placebo data.
Trade-offs
Digestive events occurred in 84% receiving bofanglutide versus 33% with placebo. In the highest fortnightly-dose group, 16% left because of adverse events and only 72% completed the trial. Serious events occurred in eight bofanglutide participants and one placebo participant; no deaths occurred.
The takeaway
Similar averages do not establish that the schedules are interchangeable. Longer, more diverse studies must test durability and tolerability.
